Since their onset, Information Technologies have focused in offering solutions to automate routine processes in order to achieve lower costs and considerably increase productivity. Nowadays, most companies have their own ERP, corporate data bases, report generating systems and, in general, a variety of systems that automate structured data processing. Gradually, what once was the base of a business competitive advantage has become available to everyone and is no more an efficient differentiation tool, especially in today’s increasingly global economy.
Companies are losing momentum and innovation capability as they have practically ignored the most valuable asset for businesses in the new economy: people, their talent, their ability to create, to make decisions, to relate to clients and partners, to collaborate amongst themselves overcoming organizational and geographical barriers, to innovate and to come up with ideas that allow the business to adapt to the changing marketplace.
